Brenda Athletic Club 90 Day Challenge!

November 25th, 2014 – Ian Riley Update!

WELL, HERE WE GO!!!
I have 4 weeks of training left with DeVonte Driver at Brenda Athletic Clubs!!

So, where have the last 2 months taken me?  To places I never thought my body could go!

Again, I only have 1 month of training left, but over the last 2 months, I have bench pressed triple what I initially bench pressed.

How about squatting?  When I came into this challenge, I could barely squat 100 pounds.  This week, I squat 275 pounds!!  That’s more than I weighed coming into this challenge.

Now, I would be lying if I were to say that I have not struggled at all during this challenge.  I absolutely have.  I have become discouraged when I hit the plateau, I have become cranky when I wasn’t able to eat the food that I wanted, and I have felt insignificant at times, when I lift what I can lift, and see others lifting more.

So, how did I get past those hang ups, insecurities, and character defects?  I stayed in constant contact with those who have been helping me the most.  My trainer, DeVonte, my wife Michelle, my friends.. I even chat it up with the front desk at Brenda Athletic Clubs in Modesto and get encouragement from them!!!  The point being, when I feel like the cards are stacked against me, I have a whole team of friends at the gym who push me when I don’t think I can do it anymore, and those same people can help push you past those points that you think are road blocks, but are really just speed bumps.

AND IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I’m serious when I say that.  Before I started this, I was the guy who took the road MOST traveled. I was all about the path of least resistance. I looked for the easiest way out of everything, including taking care of myself.  When I would pretend to go to the gym and work out, I was basically there to lift a couple of weights that did NOT challenge me, and go home, content that I have done just enough!!

SERIOUSLY..IF I CAN DO THIS, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

We are coming to the home stretch.  I can see the finish line and the checkered flag.  More importantly, I can feel the difference!!!

November 7th, 2014 – Ian Riley Update!

So, I am officially halfway through my 90 day challenge at Brenda Athletic Clubs.
45 days down, 45 days to go, and it has been worth it!!

BY THE WAY… READ THIS BLOG, AND AT THE END, LEARN HOW YOU CAN GET A DATE NIGHT WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER, THANKS TO BRENDA ATHLETIC CLUBS!!

I came into this weighing 248 pounds.  I ate fast food 5 times a week, I drowned most of my home made food in oils and gravy, and most importantly,
I exercised exactly zero times a week.  I got really good at going home, propping myself up on the couch, catching up on my DVR, and then counting down the hours until I could go to bed, and do it all over again.

Fast forward 45 days, and I feel like a new person.

So, here’s what has happened.  I hooked up with DeVonte Driver.  He is a personal trainer at Brenda Athletic Clubs.  He has, thus far, been relentless.  I used to joke that I had freakishly strong legs because they were carrying all my weight around…and then we had leg day, and I found out how not strong my legs were!!   We’re working on that.

His first goal with me was to drop my body fat percentage.  A lot of people talk about how much weight you have lost, but he made it clear to me that body fat percentage was the most important part of it all, and in the first 2 weeks, thanks to his instruction, I peeled off nearly 3 percent of my body fat, and have so far, lost over 20 pounds!!!!

His next goal was to build more muscle.  Now, I am not one to stare at myself in the mirror, HOWEVER… every so often, I catch a glimpse while I’m working out, and even I notice the muscle definition that’s coming through.  More importantly though, my wife has noticed, and at the end of the day, it’s incredible for my confidence.

So, where am I at today?  The honest answer is, I don’t know, but here is why….MAKE NO MISTAKE..I HAVE LOST WEIGHT… More than 20 pounds so far!!!  I am wearing clothes that I have not worn in nearly 4 years… BUT –
I became obsessed with weighing myself every single day, and then we hit the dreaded ‘plateau’;  That part where you have taken off so much weight, that your body becomes used to the elevated metabolism, and weight doesn’t come off as quick.

I was concerned, but DeVonte, my trainer was not, in fact, his response was ‘lets kick it up a notch’, and that’s what we have been doing.  So, I am going to stay away from the scale for a couple of weeks.  I am going to trust in the system that has been put in place for me, because at the end of the day, the staff and trainers at Brenda Athletic Clubs know WAY MORE about this than I do.  They are the ones who got me here, and they are the ones who I am going to trust in moving forward.  I have found that 100 percent of the time, when I try and take over something that I know nothing about, I fall flat on my face, and something like that is not an option for me when it comes to my health.  Brenda Athletic Clubs understands that for not only me, but anybody else who walks through their doors, and that’s why their certified personal trainers are so friggin’ awesome!!!

So, how can you Uand I do this together?  I love working out amongst friends.  Here are a few things going on at Brenda Athletic Clubs that I hope you take advantage of:
1.  Join in November, and the rest of the year is FREE!!!!!!… and free means free!!!!
2.  Try one of their boot camps!  Something like that is PERFECT to get your foot in the door, and get ahead of the game as we enter into the holiday season!  The next session starts on November 17th.
3.  Let your kids see how much fun Brenda Athletic Clubs can be.  Kids fun night is on November 21st from 6-9pm.  Drop the kiddos off for activities, while you and your significant other enjoy a night out!!

October 20th, 2014 – Ian Riley

So, here we are.. Officially 1 month into my 90 day challenge at Brenda Athletic Clubs.  That’s four weeks of diet change, exercise change, and an all around lifestyle change.
Gone from my daily routine are the tacos and burritos, burgers and fries, hours in front of the television, and naps that, when the kids weren’t around, would last for hours.

I am blessed now, thank you to Brenda Athletic Clubs, and my trainer, DeVonte Driver, to have a new lease on life, where my energy levels run high, my personal health is better than ever, and I am just a more pleasant person to be around.

So, a lot of people have been asking me for updated pictures.  I want to do one so bad, but I also want to wait until we are a little closer to the end of the 90 day challenge, because I think you will be as shocked as I have been so far, to see such a dramatic change!!

I almost started to cry a little bit this morning, because I was able to put on one of my favorite button up shirts; and I have not been able to wear this shirt in over 2 years.  I held on to it, stared at it every day, and every once in a while, would put it on and see if I could button it up without popping any buttons out.   Last week, it was still a little bit too small on me, but this morning, I buttoned it up, and still had a ton of room left over…

Another benefit that I have found in my new lease on life, is all the money I have saved!!

People have said to me over the last month “Anybody can do it if you have a trainer, and I dont have money for a trainer”
to that, I say FALSE!!!
Since I have begun this program, I have saved WAY more money than I have ever could have imagined!!  So much so, that I could have paid for these training sessions twice over with all the money I’ve saved.  Keep in mind, I have a family of 4, so every time we ate out (and we ate out a lot), we were looking at a bill of a minimum $25.  That’s all money that has gone back in my family’s savings account.

I spent the last few years making excuses, and finding all the reasons why I COULDN’T do something like this.  In fact, I worked harder at getting out of the work that it took to get me to this point, than I would have worked, if I just signed up for this a while ago.

October 6th, 2014 – Ian Riley

I am officially 2 weeks into my 90 day challenge at Brenda Athletics club.
I am PUMPED to get this chance to share my results with you, and I have to tell you now,
my trainer, DeVonte Driver, said he was MORE THAN IMPRESSED with our progress.

So, when I started this two weeks ago, I weighed 248 pounds.

My belly was 47.5 inches round.
My chest was 44.5 inches round.
My waist was 43.5 inches round.
My thighs were 24.5 inches round.

My triceps had 16mm of fat.
My Biceps had 12mm of fat.
My stomach had 21mm of fat.
My back had 18mm of fat.

I WAS 22.8% BODY FAT!!!

NOW…. 2 weeks later

Belly – 45 inches (down 2 and a half inches)
Chest – 43 incesh (down an inch and a half)
waist – 41.5 inches (down 2 full inches)
thighs – 22 inches (down 2 and a half inches)

I lost 2mm of fat in my triceps, 5mm of fat off my biceps, took 4mm of fat off my stomach, and 2mm of fat off my back.

AND…THE MOST IMPORTANT PART –
In just two weeks time, I went from nearly 23% body fat, down to 20% body fat.
That has literally taken me from ‘fair’ on the health factor, to ‘Good’….
THIS IS LITERALLY JUST 14 DAYS INTO THIS CHALLENGE!!!!
I have a long way to go, but this is one heck of a start.

Just a little background on this man… At one time, he weighed in at
over 300 pounds!!  He lost the weight, same way as me, with no chemicals or pills.  Just healthy living. He can show you which foods you should probably be eating.  Seriously.. Take a minute with him, and you’ll see what I see, and be all in.

I can’t believe I still have another 2 and a half months to go.  I can’t wait to see the outcome, and I can’t wait to see how well you are doing too. Lets do this together!!!!!

September 25th, 2014 – Ian Riley

A week ago, I weighed 248 pounds, and that is NOT OK with me!!!!

So, I have started a 90 day challenge at Brenda Athletics Club (www.brendaathletics.com).
By started, I mean I was told about this opportunity, I hesitated, I contemplated the Taco Bell that I was going to have to give up, I weighed the options of changing my life versus my love for Jumbo Jacks and Double Quarter Pounders, and then my wife told me that I snore too loud and she is 3 days away from sending me to the couch……. So I accepted the challenge
(I love my bed…AND MY WIFE!).

So, here we go… 90 days of work outs, eating right, challenging myself, and being held accountable for my food and physical activities.

As I currently write this first blog update, I am 7 days into my 90 day challenge.  That means, 1 week ago I cut off the fast food, the midnight PB&J snacks, the hours long sessions on the couch watching on-demand cable, and a general laziness that blanketed my life, thanks to self will run riot!

That also means that 1 week ago I started working out with my personal trainer, DeVonte Driver (He does a lot on instagram, search for devonte_robo_driver ). He showed me the foods I should and should not eat, and suggested the order in which I eat these foods.  SURPRISINGLY… Taco Bell was NOT on the list… I know..I’m as shocked as you are.

He also took the time to set up a personal workout schedule for me.  This not only included the time we were together, but also what he needs me to do on the days we don’t work out together, which was huge because without direction, I’m lost!

WHEN WE STARTED THIS…. I weighed in at 248 LBS (my heaviest ever).  My chest was 44 inches, my waist was 43 inches, but my gut was nearly 48 inches.
Houston, we had a problem.

7 DAYS IN –
I have lost nearly 10 pounds!!!  If you’re not high fiving me, that’s OK, because I’m self fiving right now!!! I wore a pair of pants to work I haven’t been able to button in almost a year!!

BOTTOM LINE… So far, even in just a week, this has been a life changer.  More energy, less weight, more muscle…and all it took was just 10 percent of the effort I put into obtaining horrible food for myself!!
