When You Get Dumped

We found this list on EliteDaily.com about “4 Things You’re Allowed to do When You Get Dumped” and it brought me back to when I split.  Elite Daily lists these things:

  1. Laugh a little. Marathon lots of funny movies, hang out with your funniest friends, go to a comedy show, or even join an improv class.
  2. Create a “Burn Book.” Writing out all your feelings about your ex could serve as a form of therapy.
  3. Remove yourself from the situation. Sometimes, you need to remove yourself from all of those reminders in order to start moving on.
  4. Call your parents. Being dumped is one of those cases where the unconditional love and support of your parents can really help.

After my break up, I did 2 out of the 4 above.  1. Laughed (a lot) and 4. Called my Parents.  My parents have been my biggest support and I didn’t realize in the beginning how much I was going to need them after my split. They’re everything.

In the beginning, I maybe thought about doing #2, a “Burn Book”, but couldn’t get myself to do it because he’s still the father to my kids, which is also why I couldn’t do #3.

The things I did after my split probably wouldn’t make it on most “Things you SHOULD Do” lists. I was more of a “drown my sorrows in Tito’s” kinda girl, searching for my soul at every dive bar around.  Think Miranda Lamberts song “Vice”…. literally the story of my life.

In my opinion, you do whatever you have to do to make yourself HAPPY after a split.  When you remove something or someone from your life, you have to add a positive element to fill that void.  For me, although I tried booze and parties and anything that would mask the sadness,  it’s actually meditation, hiking, good friends, family, forgivenes, and rest that ultimately brought me peace.
